How do we make the most of each day? We wake up and are faced with choices, whether that’s eating breakfast, giving advice to people, or interacting with people at work or school. But do we live and act in such a way each day that glorifies God?
In 1 Cor 11, Paul highlights two particular topics—head coverings and communion (the Lord’s supper)—and goes over why these are important and why they were implemented. The Corinthian church may not have understood the background or why these things were important and, as a result, went through the motions and treated these as traditions without much meaning.
However, Paul’s main concern is whether the church is living in such a way that brings glory to God, rather than disgrace and dishonor. If we take a step back and examine our lives, have we lived in such a way that brings glory to God? Perhaps we face the problem of becoming too focused on the “do’s” and “don’ts”, and miss the spirit. May we make it our goal to, rather than just going through the motions, live in such a way that glorifies God as His citizens in His kingdom!
