In the process of saving his captured nephew, Abram defeated a bunch of kings and was offered a handsome reward by the king of Sodom for defeating those kings (Genesis 14).
If you were Abram, what would you do? Would you accept this great gift without a second thought? Would you have a lengthy discussion on what strings are attached?
Abram’s focus was on God. He was not interested in any earthly wealth that the king of Sodom could offer. He had already considered this situation beforehand, made up his mind, and swore an oath to the LORD God Most High, that he would not accept anything from the king of Sodom.
We will often face difficult decisions in life that, unless we prepare ahead of time for them, may end up becoming our downfall. May we be on our guard so that we may not make any decisions that hinder us from drawing closer to God.
