I hope everything is going well for you. If not, we are always here for help!
Last week, we ended our series on the parables with the parable of the Lamp Under a Basket (Mark 4:21-25) in which Jesus talks about how nobody would light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a bed. This statement is rather easy to understand in a physical sense for the fact that when people light up a lamp, it is for it to shine, not for it to be covered.
However, more than that, Jesus uses this illustration to warn us that spiritually speaking this could be exactly what we are doing with the light of God in us. God gives us his life through his word, and his word is like this light that comes into our life. But after receiving it, what did we do with it? Have we been so busy with work and family that we have hidden the life of God in us? Oftentimes we let it stop at us and forget that now it is my responsibility to let this light keep shining so that others can also benefit from it. May we remember to hold fast to the word of God and make it a priority to let it shine in our life.
