😴 Stay Awake! (Mark 13:24-37)

Are you awake? 🛌

In Mark 13:24-37, Jesus warns his disciples to stay awake because the day of God’s judgment is coming. In the days preceding that, there will be tribulations and social unrest, leading many to be troubled and filled with despair. But those who know what is coming will prepare and will look forward to it, because despite how things may seem, all that is happening is a sign that for God’s people redemption is near.

But what does Jesus mean when he tells us to stay awake? Is he telling us to physically stop ourselves from falling asleep? 😵

Obviously Jesus is referring to being spiritually awake. Jesus explains that if we are spiritually asleep or dead, due to being intoxicated with the busyness and worries of life, we would be caught off guard and easily trapped (Luke 21:34-36). But to be spiritually awake means to be spiritually alive (Ephesians 5:14): we will be aware of what is truly going on around us, we will be active in choosing good over evil, and we will be able to do what God has purposed for us to do.

So stay awake! Don’t let the worries of this life drown you. Rather put your focus on following God’s words, and He is faithful to take care of you. 💪😁
