🍷 The Last Supper (Mark 14:22-31)

Do you consider yourself someone who is heroic? ⚔️🛡️

In Mark 14:22-31, Jesus has supper 🥖 with his disciples, his last supper with them. During this time, he foretells that his disciples will fall away when he, the shepherd, is struck down.

Peter, one of Jesus’s disciples, gives a heroic response, saying that he will not fall away and that he will not deny Jesus even if he has to die. Peter is loyal to Jesus, his teacher and master, but his confidence is not founded on God, but rather on himself.

What is the difference between this sort of “heroic” faith, and genuine faith?

This sort of heroism relies on our own strength. 💪 However our own strength eventually will fail. During his last supper with his disciples, Jesus tells his disciples about the new covenant that is being established through him. This new covenant is not about external change but instead internal change. As those who’ve read more of the Bible may know, Peter himself experiences this change later on as he becomes someone who is able to rely on God’s strength rather than his own.

May we allow God to change our hearts daily as we actively seek that new covenant with Him! 🙏
