Have you ever planted a seed and watched it grow into a plant? 🌱
In Mark 4:26-34, Jesus continues with two more parables connected to the Kingdom of God, completing a trilogy of parables related to growth of seeds!
In the “Parable of the Sower”, we see that the seed represents the word of God and the soil represents our hearts. In the “Parable of the Seed”, we see that while a seed will naturally grow provided the right conditions, growing and taking care of it requires work and effort. Likewise, the word of God can take root in our hearts if we accept it, but we must maintain it by integrating His word in our lives. This is how we can experience God in our lives.
In the “Parable of the Mustard Seed”, large tree 🌳 grows out from this seed 🌰, having large branches so that the birds 🐦 can nest under its shade. Birds may live on the branches and eat from the tree, while the tree provides life by giving shelter and food. Are we like a bird or a branch? To be a branch, we need to be joined to the tree. This would mean letting go of our old values and being aligned with Christ’s values.
May we be a branch to the mustard tree, instead of a bird!
