Who do you see Jesus to be?
Jesus and his disciples were discussing what other people considered him to be (Mark 8:27-38). Some people thought that Jesus was John the Baptist, while others thought he was Elijah, or one of the prophets. But Jesus asked his disciples themselves who they thought him to be. To this, Peter answered that Jesus was the Christ, the chosen one sent by God for the salvation of mankind.
Peter was praised by Jesus for being able to see this without any person having told him. However, as Jesus was telling them that the Christ will suffer and be killed, Peter rebuked his teacher. Peter really got a harsh response from Jesus for this! It may have been harsh, but Jesus did it out of concern and love for Peter and the rest of the disciples. ♥️ Although Peter was able to see 👀 spiritually, he was not able to see clearly.
When we read this, what is our response like? 🤔 Perhaps at first, we sympathize with Peter. But it takes a lot of prayer and calling on God to help us break away from our worldly way of thinking and to see things beyond the physical. Only in this way can we begin to understand God’s mind, just like how Jesus did.
May we constantly call on God to help us break away from the ways of the world! 🙏
