Coming down from the mountain, Jesus encounters a man who begs him to cast out the demon possessing his son, telling Jesus that his disciples could not do it (Mark 9:14-29). āIf you can,ā the man exclaims, āplease help us!ā
āIf you can!ā Jesus responds. āAll things are possible to him who believes.ā
How often it is that we are like this man, that when things donāt work out, our immediate thought is that itās because of the failure of others? How often do we keep trying different things not realizing that the issue that first needs to be dealt is our own self?
When we have trouble learning, we may consider it to be problem of the teacher. If we donāt get healed, we may consider it to be the problem of the doctor. If the project doesnāt work out, we say it must be the leader, or the other team members.
But even more importantly, what is our attitude when it comes to God? When we encounter things that donāt work out, how do we respond? Do we start considering that itās Godās problem, something that He must fix? Or do we consider that there is something about our self that needs to change?
