Last week, we looked at the wise men (or magi) who came to see Jesus (Matthew 2:1-12). These were knowledgeable men who looked to the stars and believed that the skies had messages about what was happening here on earth. This group of magi saw a star and believed it told of the birth of a king, the King of the Jews!
How would you react if you heard that a king was coming? Would you be like Herod who was terrified, or would you be like the wise men who looked for the king to submit to him?
Perhaps that depends a lot on how we are currently living and what we see the king to be like. If we are living an unrighteous life and we know that the coming king is righteous and just, we will try to find whatever way we can to prevent the king from coming. But if we desire change in our life, peace and justice, we will seek out that king no matter how far away we may be.
