😿 Lust and Covetousness (Matthew 5:27-32)

Last week we covered Matthew 5:27-32, where we talked about lust and how serious we should deal with sin.

Jesus brings up one of the laws, “You shall not commit adultery.” He says that having lust in one’s heart for someone is enough to be committing adultery. Lust is a desire of the flesh, and this is a reaction of wanting something, a craving of the flesh thinking you can’t live without it.

What I found very interesting is that in the Ten Commandments, “Do not covet” is the last in the list, and usually this means that it’s the most important one on the list. How is it the most important one? Well, when you look at the other 9 commandments, they mostly deal with actions, but coveting is something in the heart.

I wonder where in my life have I been thinking, “I want this” or “I want that”. Most of the time when growing up, I see the things that my friends have that I also would want. If we don’t have this desire of the flesh for things, we wouldn’t be committing sin. This is why we need our heart to be transformed.

Let us have a heart that cares about others, changing our way of thinking, not pursuing a life of what we want, but a life that is centered around caring and loving other people.
