👁 Pure in Heart (Matthew 5:8)

Last week we covered the verse, Matthew 5:8:
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

I always wondered if I really viewed being able to see and communicate with God as a blessing. I think too much of the time I take it for granted. I tend to think, well God is always there, I can reach out to Him anytime. But I don’t think that’s the right approach.

What does it mean to be pure? Most people think they have a pure heart, ‘cause they have good intentions or whatnot, but “pure” here means without sin. Does that mean that you need to be without blemish to be able to see God, to build a relationship with Him?

While you don’t need to be sinless to come to Him, you do need to be pure of heart to be able to understand and grow that relationship with Him. Being pure isn’t about what’s on the outside. Sure, we can do many good things, but our thoughts have to be aligned with it as well. We can have a mask up to be good but without our hearts being pure we will show our true selves in the end. Only with a good heart we can bear good fruit.

Let us all strive to have a pure heart, being transformed by God, so that we can build a relationship with Him purely knowing His character and growing in His ways.
