What is prayer? 🤔 Most importantly, do you know how to pray? 🙏
Earlier, Jesus taught when we pray, we shouldn’t make our prayers performative with meaningless repetition. (Psst… that’s in Matthew 6:1-8 if you missed Bible Study two weeks ago or the email summary last week!) After teaching about what prayer is, Jesus proceeds to teach the people how to pray.
I remember a time when I was 5 years old. I joined my mom for church service this one time and I saw others praying to God after the service. Naturally, I copied them and “prayed” to God, but I didn’t know how to pray or what to pray for. So, I asked my mom to pray and she would recite the Lord’s Prayer. As a young kid, I never understood it.
So, how did Jesus start that prayer in Matthew 6:9? “Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name.” As I reflected on this, I noticed that Jesus’ prayers always revolved around God. Even through the way Jesus lived his life, I saw that he is always concerned and always engaged in the things God cares about! It is by living by conduct that Jesus represented God to the fullest. Can we say that we are like that?
I pray to our Father in heaven that we can all be transformed by Him in our life and we can uphold His name, just as Jesus did! ♥️
